What is Web 3.0? This is a question that many people are asking, and for good reason. The web is evolving, and with it, the way we use the internet is changing too. In this podcast, we will explore what web 3.0 is and how it changes how we use the internet!

So, what is web 3.0? Simply put, web 3.0 is the next generation of the internet. Web 3.0 is actually the third era of the web and uses new technologies to improve the user experience and make websites more efficient and user-friendly.

It builds on the first two eras – Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.

Let me stop, are some of you confused and didn't realize we had 3 eras of the web? Well, let me explain.

In the early days of the internet, web 1.0 was all about static pages with information that was mostly read by humans. With web 2.0, we saw the rise of social media and dynamic content that could be interacted with by users.

Web 3.0 is taking things one step further by using blockchain technology to create a more decentralized internet. Please listen to Season 2: Ep 19: Blockchain Decoded: What Is It and How Does It Work? to learn more about Blockchain.

As a refresher, Blockchain is a distributed database that allows for secure, transparent and tamper-proof transactions. This means that web 3.0 is not controlled by any single entity, but rather it is decentralized and distributed. This has a number of advantages, including increased security, privacy and trust. With blockchain, every user has a unique digital identity that is stored on a decentralized network.  This makes it impossible for hackers to steal your information or identity.

Another important aspect of web 3.0 is the use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI can be used to personalize your user experience, as well as to make websites more efficient. For example, AI can be used to automatically generate website content based on your interests. Additionally, web 3.0 also includes the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). These technologies can be used to create immersive experiences that are not possible with traditional websites.

Websites that are using web 3.0 technologies are already starting to pop up. Some of the most popular examples include Decentraland, a virtual world that uses blockchain technology; Cryptokitties, a game that allows you to breed and trade digital cats; and Ethereum Name Service, a decentralized system for managing domain names.

Also there are already a number of projects that are working on building the infrastructure for this new web. One such project is the web 3.0 stack, which is a set of protocols and standards that will enable web 3.0 applications to run on the internet. This could allow users to not only read the web, or write on the web, but to have full ownership over their content, data, and assets via blockchains.

So what does this all mean for the future of the internet?

Web 3.0 has the potential to completely change the way we use the internet. With its decentralized nature, it could lead to a more secure and private internet. Additionally, web 3.0 has the potential to power the next generation of applications and services that are more interactive and engaging. We are only just beginning to scratch the surface of what web 3.0 can do, and we are excited to see what the future holds for this new web!
